For the 2018 Berklee Institute for Jazz and Gender Justice opening, Grammy - winning Terri Lyne Carrington had students pick songs from the jazz Real Book by women composers. Finding only one in the whole book, she took action. Over years, she put together New Standards (Hal Leonard, Sept 2022), a collection of 101 jazz pieces by women. New Standards Vol. 1 features 11 of these works. Produced by Carrington and Matthew Stevens, this is just the first volume. Carrington aims to record all 101 from her new songbook.
