Olé Coltrane is the ninth jazz album by John Coltrane, released in 1961 on Atlantic Records. Recorded at A&R Studios in New York, it was the last of Coltrane's Atlantic albums under his own supervision. Two days before recording this album, Coltrane started with his new label, Impulse! Records. He brought his working quintet and two Africa/Brass session participants. Eric Dolphy used the pseudonym George Lane due to his Prestige contract. Coltrane's interest in Spanish music in Olé might be from Miles Davis's Sketches of Spain. The modal jazz vamp Olé borrows from the Spanish folk song El Vito, and the soprano saxophone work recalls 'My Favorite Things' from 1961. Side - two song titles show the band's interest in African forms as in the May 23 Africa/Brass recordings.
