This album features songs about Sudan's unity, peace between Muslims and Christians, and the plight of war orphans. The music draws inspiration from Arabic sounds, American funk, and Ethiopian music. Kamal Keila, a key figure in the Sudanese jazz scene from the 1960s - 1980s, presented us with two mold - covered studio reels last year. Each tape has five tracks, one with English lyrics and the other with Arabic. The Ethiopian influence is more prominent than in other Sudanese recordings of the time, along with nods to Fela, American funk, and soul. His English - sung lyrics are political, bravely advocating for unity and peace in Sudan. Recorded on August 12, 1992, this is the first in a Habibi Funk series on the Sudanese jazz scene.
