Originally released in 1994 on Bill Laswell's Axiom imprint and produced by him, it's a meeting of two true musical geniuses. Maleem Mahmoud Ghania (1951 - 2015), from a prominent Gnawa family, was a master of the traditional Gnawa style. He practiced Gnawa for healing and was a well - known professional musician in Morocco. In 1994, Bill Laswell and Pharoah Sanders recorded Ghania and a large group of musicians in a private house. Sanders, the legendary free jazz artist, added his unique tenor saxophone sounds. This album is one of the best Gnawa recordings, making it onto The Vinyl Factory's list. After 25 years since its original CD release, it's now on vinyl, remastered and cut by Rashad Becker in Berlin. It comes on 180 - gram vinyl in a gatefold sleeve and includes a download code.
